The Book of Acts - Act 4: A Wanderin' Man
The Book of Acts is a folk musical telling the story of the New Testament book of Acts from the Bible. This is the fourth act. This is the story, told in the genre of folk music, of the start of the Christian church after the ascension of Jesus to heaven. In act four, Paul is a traveling disciple delivering the truth of the Gospel of Christ to Jew and Gentile. Paul and Silas go to Thessalonica to preach, but the Jews there start a riot. Paul shakes the dust from his feet and goes onward to Berea, Athens, and Corinth, teaching the Gospel to anyone willing to listen. Wherever he goes, the Jewish leaders stir up trouble. He finally has enough and decides to reach out more so to the Gentiles. So, Paul delivers a message to the Corinthians and the Athenians. Many gentiles are saved, which stirs up hatred among the Jews. Paul travels and sails to many distant lands spreading the Gospel wherever he and the disciples go. In Ephesus, the sons of Sceva try to perform an exorcism on a man with a demon. The demon overpowers all seven on them, leaving them all bloody, battered, and beaten. This incident creates revival among the Jews and Greeks. Some sorcerers even burn their scrolls publicly confessing their sins to Jesus. Paul continues traveling on, and he creates a great perturbance wherever he goes, even though all he is sharing is the love of Jesus Christ. In Ephesus there is an intense riot, and the people there try to kill Paul. Fortunately, the city clerk, Alexander, quells the riot and quiets the crowd. From there, Paul Journeys through Macedonia and Greece, staying in Troas for one week. While in Troas, Paul is delivering a message in an upstairs room of a church. A young man, Eutychus falls asleep during the sermon, and he falls out of a window, plummeting to his death. However, Paul is able to bring Eutychus back to life, and he walks away unscathed. Paul leaves the Ephesians on a good note, exhorting the brothers to share the love of Christ and the fruits of the spirit to all men, both Jew and Gentile, slave or free. Paul sets sail hoping to arrive back in Jerusalem by the time of Pentecost. A prophet named Agabus tells Paul that he will be handed over to the Jewish authorities. No matter, Paul is determined and unwavering in his devotion to the Lord. He must return at once to Jerusalem and share the love of Christ to both Jew and Gentile. Paul gives a report of his tranvels and ministry to the Disciples in Jerusalem. Then he joins them in their purification rites in order to witness to the Jews. Unfortunately, the Jews start another riot and want to kill Paul. They hate his guts. They not only want to kill Paul, but they want to do away with the Christian church.
